Fitness wearables company WHOOP has finalized a deal with the NFL Players Association allowing athletes to sell their biometric health data, Gizmodo reports. Among the deal's provisions include allowing those players who participate in the data-sharing program to own their health information. “Every day, NFL players produce data that can translate into physiological and financial opportunities," said President of NFL Players Ahmad Nassar. "We see partnering with WHOOP as the first step in harnessing this exciting technology." Some aren't as thrilled with the development, arguing that health information could be used to pit the skill of players against each other, to indicate levels of heart rate during a heated moment in-game, or even spur gambling and other less savory deals. "The future is a lot more strange and a lot less fun than we hoped," the report states.
