GovInfoSecurity looks at the health care data breaches reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services over the first half of 2019. According to the HIPAA Breach Reporting Tool, 218 breaches have occurred over the past six months, and 10 million individuals have been impacted by the incidents. Of those breaches, 127 were described as “hacking/IT incidents,” which affected 7.7 million people. The largest in 2019 was reported by Dominion National, in which nearly 3 million people were caught up in the breach that may have started nine years earlier.
