California Attorney General Kamala Harris’ data breach report focused on how the health care sector could greatly improve its privacy and cybersecurity practices, The Wall Street Journal reports. “The industry appears to be improving in its use of encryption to protect data on laptops and other portable devices, but there is still a long way to go in addressing this preventable type of breach,” the study states, adding that 24 million health care records were breached in 2015 alone. Encryption work, although improving, still needs more attention, the study adds. “This is a particular imperative for health care, which appears to be lagging behind other sectors in this regard.” (Registration may be required to access this story.)
