A European Digital Rights group asked the Hellenic Data Protection Authority for its opinion on a smart policing project, Planet Biometrics reports. Homo Digitalis claims processing biometric data is not allowed as described in the project’s contract. Police will receive smart devices containing facial recognition and fingerprint identification functionalities. “There are no special legal provisions in place allowing for the collection of such biometric data during police stops,” the article states.
