The Norwegian Consumer Council filed a privacy complaint alleging Grindr violated both national and European data protection laws when it shared personal user information with third-party vendors, TechCrunch reports. The council objects to sharing users’ personal information, including their HIV statuses, without explicit consent. In a statement, Finn Myrstad, director of digital services at the council, said, “If such data sharing is to be in accordance with European law, the service has to obtain a separate and clearly given consent from the user. Grindr, who only mention sharing user data in their privacy policy, does not obtain clear consent.”
