The European Data Protection Board announced the Hellenic Data Protection Authority has fined the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization 400,000 euros for violating the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The fine stems from an investigation into complaints about OTE missteps with handling user requests regarding its do-not-call registry. Complainants were subject to advertising calls after a human error by OTE kept them off a do-not-call list provided to third-party advertisers. The investigation also revealed OTE did not have appropriate measures in place to respond to data subject requests to unsubscribe from the unwanted calls.
