Following a cross-party campaign in the House of Lords, the government announced it will back an amendment to the U.K. Data Protection Bill requiring guidance for websites used by children, The Guardian reports. Digital Minister Matt Hancock said the department would begin a statutory process with the U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office to design new standards of privacy for children under 18 that makes clear how data will be collected, used and controlled. Hancock said it will also require "tailored protections to be built into websites and apps for children under 16" in a way that protects the "freedom and opportunity of the internet."
