Congressional staffers have said that the potential for foreign-made hardware and software to introduce vulnerabilities into government networks has made agencies think more about the ways they work with third-party vendors, CyberScoop reports. Nick Leiserson, legislative director for Rep. Jim Langevin, D-R.I., said, “There is increasing awareness in the federal government and in Congress that third-party risk is an enormous problem.” Jessica Wilkerson, a professional staff member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, added that, for cybersecurity risk, it’s no longer acceptable for vendors to say they’ve taken care of it. “We don’t accept that as an answer anymore. We need the transparency. We need the conversation,” she said.
