On Wednesday, Google was fined $4.34 billion euros ($5.1 USD) by the European Union for antitrust practices involving its Android operating system, "a move that underscores Europe's willingness to issue steep financial penalties for bad behavior," AdExchanger reports. But what will this mean for future enforcement actions under the EU General Data Protection Regulation? "They're waiting for the dust to settle," Morrison & Foerster Privacy and Data Security Group Global Co-Chair Alex van der Wolk said. "There was no expectation of a lot of enforcement right away, for regulators to come out shooting." Perkins Coie Ad Tech Privacy and Data Management Practice Co-Chair Dominique Shelton, CIPP/US, said, "The best defense for a company is to get into a reasonably compliant position."
