Google said test results show its new software interface, called Federated Learning of Cohorts, is a promising substitute to third-party cookies, Axios reports. FLoC uses machine learning algorithms to analyze user data, then creates a group of thousands of people based on the sites an individual visits, which is shared and used to target advertisements. Individual data is not shared. Meanwhile, a German court banned the use of cookies and similar tracking technologies for marketing purposes without informed user consent.
