The Financial Times reports Google may have built the world’s first quantum computer that can solve calculations that would take today’s most advanced computers 10,000 years to solve. In a paper that Google posted to a NASA website, researchers said they achieved “quantum supremacy,” when “quantum computers carry out calculations that had previously been impossible, had been achieved.” While the system can only perform one technical calculation, researchers still called it “a milestone [toward] full-scale quantum computing.” (Registration may be required to access this story.)
