In a potential class action suit filed this week, plaintiffs allege Google’s “Google Photos” service violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, MediaPost reports. “Google has created, collected and stored, in conjunction with its cloud-based 'Google Photos' service, millions of 'face templates' (or 'face prints') — highly detailed geometric maps of the face — from millions of Illinois residents, many thousands of whom are not even enrolled in the Google Photos service," argues plaintiff Lindabeth Rivera. Meanwhile, the Guardian reports on high-end retailers’ use of in-store facial surveillance techniques.
