In a Q&A for The New York Times' "On Tech" newsletter, Google Ethical Artificial Intelligence Team Technical Co-Lead Timnit Gebru discussed why law enforcement's use of facial recognition should be halted. "It should be banned at the moment," Gebru said, adding she has come to the realization that "even perfect facial recognition can be misused." Gebru also noted that her team's analysis shows the technology can be "way less accurate than humans" and has issues with "automation bias."
