Following Google’s software glitch that compromised Google+ user data, the company announced updates that could impact how outside app developers are able to access the data, The Wall Street Journal reports. The company said starting Jan. 9, only apps that provide a user benefit would have access to Gmail data. Under Google’s new criteria for app developers, they must also conduct a security assessment, which is to be submitted for review by Google to ensure compliance.
