Wired reports on an update Ghostery has released to bolster its ad-blocking capabilities. Ghostery 8 includes anti-tracking technology powered by artificial intelligence. The browser extension uses AI to both identify trackers and see whether the trackers are gathering personally identifiable information. When Ghostery detects a tracker targeting sensitive data, it will supersede the data points by sending random information before it reaches a third party. The upgrade also makes Ghostery easier to use, as its “Smart Mode” lets the extension adjust tracker settings if an individual does not want to manually whitelist the 2,600 trackers Ghostery has in its library.
