Italy's data protection authority, the Garante, issued a warning to TikTok over its handling of personal data used for targeted advertising. The warning comes after TikTok announced its intentions to serve ads to users age 18 and over based on legitimate interest instead of informed consent. Following a review of TikTok's updated privacy notice and further information provided by the company, the Garante found the change in legal basis violated the EU ePrivacy Directive and ordered immediate steps to come into compliance.
