Italy’s data protection authority, the Garante, approved the use of body cameras in critical situations, like events or demonstrations, by the Ministry of the Interior — Department of Public Security and the General Command of the Carabinieri. The DPA said the data must be deleted after six months. The authority also issued fines of 800,000 euros to Roma Capitale, 400,000 euros to service company Atac Spa and 30,000 euros to subcontractor Flowbird Italia for failure to protect data of individuals who parked in the municipality after new meters were installed in 2018.
