The U.S. Government Accountability Office released results of a study on the benefits and challenges of COVID-19 exposure notification applications and their use in the U.S. The GAO developed four policy options to address future challenges, including establishing uniform privacy and security standards and practices to “address real and perceived risks to the public’s data.” The GAO notes policymakers should “balance the need for privacy and security with the costs of implementing standards and practices.”
