The U.S. Government Accountability Office published its report on the security of personal data belonging to students enrolled in elementary and secondary education. The report revealed the personal information of thousands of students was breached from 2016 to 2020. Of the data breaches observed by GAO's Cybersecurity Resource Center, 58 exposed students' academic records, including test scores and special education information, while 36 compromised students' personally identifiable data. Students were found to be responsible for 27 of the 52 intentional breaches observed.
