The U.S. Government Accountability Office has released a report on privacy and accuracy issues related to the commercial use of facial recognition technology. From a privacy perspective, GAO explained existing problems with the technology, including the ability to maintain anonymity, a lack of individuals' consent and the risks that stem from collecting and storing facial images. To address these issues, GAO recommended that Congress further explore a stronger consumer privacy framework that keeps pace with emerging and evolving technologies.
