A list of recommendations from the U.S. Government Accountability Office to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in May 2016 for how it can ensure privacy protections and accuracy of its facial recognition capabilities have yet to be completely implemented, Biometric Update reports. In a letter to Attorney General William Barr, Comptroller General Gene Dodaro wrote that only two of the 13 open priority recommendations have been implemented by the Department of Justice and asks for “continued attention” on those remaining. In addition, Dodaro noted GAO added three new recommendations as priorities, bringing the total list of priority recommendations to 14.
