Swiss-based digital game developer Miniclip settled U.S. Federal Trade Commission allegations that it falsely claimed it was a member of a Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act safe harbor program. The settlement implements compliance and recordkeeping requirements, as well as prohibits Miniclip from “misrepresenting its participation or certification in any privacy or security program.” FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection Director Andrew Smith said, “Consumers rely on companies to tell them the truth, especially when it comes to how they treat personal information about children.”
