CNET reports the Supreme Court of Georgia has reversed a Court of Appeals decision on the search and collection of private vehicle data. The new decision, which may set a nationwide precedent, means Georgia law enforcement will be required to obtain a warrant for any search or seizure of vehicle data. The Court of Appeals previously ruled that warrantless searches and the collection of all vehicle data deemed relevant to an investigation were legal due to a lack of reasonable expectation of privacy.
