Vaporizer company Vipvape and the Federal Trade Commission reached a settlement agreement after the agency charged the company with lying about its participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Cross-Border Privacy Rules system, the FTC said in a release. As per the agreement, Vipvape cannot continue to claim certification with any security or privacy group if they are not actually certified, the report states. “Consumers should be able to rely on a company’s claim that it is a certified participant in an international program designed to protect their personal information,” said FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez. The FTC opened the agreement to public comment until June 3, at which point the agency will decide whether to finalize the proposed consent order.
