The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has announced it will begin sending out more than $31 million worth of reimbursement checks as part of a 2015 settlement with identity theft protection provider LifeLock. The FTC is mailing more than 1 million checks averaging about $29. The sum of all the checks is the remaining money from a $100 million settlement related to violations of an FTC order that required LifeLock to secure consumers’ personal information and prohibited the use of deceptive advertising. Meanwhile, the BBB National Programs’ Digital Advertising Accountability Program has referred mobile app developer PlantSnap to the FTC following its failure to participate in a self-regulatory review of data privacy practices.
