The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has announced a settlement with Utah-based InfoTrax Systems over claims of insufficient safeguards for consumer data. The FTC alleged the tech company did not deploy "reasonable, low-cost, and readily available" safeguards for its clients' personal information. The lacking security led to a 2016 breach that involved Social Security numbers, payment card information, bank account information, usernames and passwords of more than 1 million consumers. As part of the settlement, InfoTrax must improve its data security to continue handling personal information and undergo third-party assessments of its information security systems every two years.
