The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced app developer HyperBeard agreed to pay $150,000 and delete the information it collected on children under the age of 13 to settle alleged violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Rule. In his dissenting opinion, FTC Commissioner Noah Joshua Phillips said the fine was too high and the agency's push for heightened fines may lead to "inconsistent" penalties. FTC Chairman Joseph Simons responded to Phillip and provided insight into the HyperBeard settlement in his own statement.
