The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to update the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. The proposed updates are the first since 2013 and include required targeted advertising opt-ins, increased data retention limits, enhanced data security requirements and more. FTC Chair Lina Khan said, "By requiring firms to better safeguard kids' data, our proposal places affirmative obligations on service providers and prohibits them from outsourcing their responsibilities to parents."
