The U.S. Federal Trade Commission launched an investigation into the data practices of nine technology companies. The FTC has ordered Facebook, Amazon, ByteDance, Reddit, Snap, Twitter, WhatsApp, Discord and YouTube to turn over information on how their platforms collect, use and track personal information, their methods for targeted advertising, and how their practices affect children and teens. FTC Commissioner Noah Joshua Phillips issued a dissenting opinion on the investigation, believing the inquiry to be too broad in scope.
