  • The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced an enforcement order against education technology provider Edmodo over alleged Children's Online Privacy Protection Act violations. The order prohibits Edmodo from requiring students to "hand over more personal data than is necessary in order to participate in an online educational activity." The order also requires steps to improve parental consent practices and deletion of models and/or algorithms tied to children's data collection.
  • The FTC filed an amicus brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit arguing COPPA does not preempt state privacy laws that are consistent with the federal statute.
