The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced it has given final approval to a settlement with the ReadyTech Corporation over allegations it falsely claimed it was in the midst of certifying its compliance with the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield agreement. The FTC alleged ReadyTech put a message on its website that it was “in the process of certifying that we comply with the U.S.-EU Privacy Shield framework.” The agency found ReadyTech started a Privacy Shield application in October 2016 but did not take the final steps to properly participate in the agreement. ReadyTech is no longer allowed to misrepresent its participation in any privacy program sponsored by a government agency or a self-regulatory entity.
