The U.S. Federal Trade Commission finalized a settlement with NTT Global Data Centers Americas over allegations it falsely claimed participation in the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield framework. The FTC said NTT’s certification lapsed in January 2018, noting the data storage services company failed to comply with certain requirements as a participant. The settlement prohibits NTT from misrepresenting compliance and requires it to continue to apply Privacy Shield requirements. Commissioner Rohit Chopra dissented saying the settlement does not “meaningfully hold NTT accountable.”
