The Federal Trade Commission announced Tuesday that Taiwan-based computer hardware manufacturer ASUSTeK Computer agreed to settle charges that security flaws in its routers put the sensitive personal information of thousands of its customers at risk. The agency asserts the company did not take reasonable steps to secure the software on its routers. FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection Director Jessica Rich said, “The Internet of Things is growing by leaps and bounds, with millions of consumers connecting smart devices to their home networks,” adding, “Routers play a key role in securing those home networks, so it’s critical that companies like ASUS put reasonable security in place to protect consumers and their personal information.”
