Bloomberg reports on the growing frustration over big tech’s repeated security scandals, prompting lawmakers and advocates to call for a robust response from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Despite declaring to increase scrutiny of America’s tech giants, FTC Chairman Joe Simons has been criticized for a lack of action. "Time and again, the FTC has shied away from pursuing clear consumer abuses by big technology companies," Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said in a statement. "The FTC must demonstrate that it is willing to step up to hold big tech accountable." While criticized for the FTC’s inaction, Simons has pushed Congress for more authority to punish privacy violations.
