Former users of Match.com recently discovered their deleted accounts had been reactivated, The Verge reports. A spokesperson for the dating service said a “limited number” of deleted accounts was accidentally reactivated, and those affected by the incident had their passwords reset. Match.com’s privacy statement tells users it will retain information associated with an account, even if it is shut down. The spokesman said Match.com will be releasing a new privacy policy to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation. “There probably are good reasons to keep deleted profiles for some period of time — for example, to prevent or detect repeat users or fake users, etc.,” Stanford Center for Internet and Society Consulting Director of Privacy Albert Gidari said. “But that doesn’t mean forever.”
