Former head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre and former eSafety Commissioner Alastair MacGibbon told the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs that online age verification would have to involve biometrics, ZDNet reports. The committee is looking into age verification for online explicit images and gambling. “It could be used as a way of saying, ‘This face that’s now in front of this camera is attached to a driver’s licence and a passport in Australia, and that person is over the age of 18,’” MacGibbon said. British Board of Film Classification Head of Age Verification Amelia Erratt said a potential U.K. plan would offer age verification cards for sale at retailers.
