The latest cybersecurity regulation updates in China go into effect Dec. 1, and foreign companies are concerned they will have to switch to Chinese equipment to secure their networks, as well as reveal their systems to Chinese inspectors in order to meet the new regulations, the South China Morning Post reports. “No other country in the world does this, so it’s unknown how this will work,” Control Risks Cyber Consulting Team Director Jim Fitzsimmons said. Meanwhile, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute claims China is harvesting data on a global scale, and Forbes reports China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will use facial recognition to monitor more than 800 million mobile internet users.
