There are always innumerable reasons to attend IAPP Europe’s flagship event, the Data Protection Congress, including a full slate of preconference workshops, keynote speakers that include some of the best-known thinkers in the privacy field and, of course, unmatched networking opportunities.

But this year, the IAPP has added yet another reason: For the first time ever, training and exams for the world’s only privacy certification designed for IT, security and engineering professions, the Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT), are being offered in Europe.

“A CIPT certification proves your commitment to achieving the global industry standard in developing, engineering and managing technology to meet evolving privacy needs,” said IAPP Certification Director Marla Berry, CIPT.

Described as the “how” of privacy and technology, the IAPP launched the CIPT this year to meet the growing need, that only technology professionals can fill, of securing data privacy at all stages of IT product and service lifecycles.

Wondering what you’ll learn while training and testing for the CIPT certification? The takeaways include:

• Critical privacy concepts and practices that impact IT;
• Consumer privacy expectations and responsibility;
• How to bake privacy into early stages of IT products and services for cost control, accuracy and speed-to-market;
• How to establish privacy practices for data collection and transfer;
• How to preempt privacy issues in the Internet of Things;
• How to factor privacy into data classification and emerging tech such as cloud computing, facial recognition and surveillance;
• How to communicate privacy issues with partners such as management, development, marketing and legal.

In conjunction with the Data Protection Congress, Certification Foundation Training will be held on November 17, with training for the CIPT, as well as for the CIPM and CIPP/E, set for November 18. Following the event, testing for the Foundation and each of the IAPP certifications—CIPP/US, CIPP/C, CIPP/E, CIPP/G, CIPM and CIPT—will be held on November 21.
