United Arab Emirates Federal National Council Speaker Saqr Ghobash approved a draft federal law on consumer protection. The proposal includes protecting consumer data, not using it for promotion and marketing, “fair and prompt” settlement of disputes, and coordinating between authorities that monitor the protection of consumer rights in services, including insurance, banking and medical. The proposal imposes penalties of imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years and a fine not exceeding AED 2 million dirhams for violations. (Original post is in Arabic.)
