As part of an ongoing investigation, the Philippines’ National Privacy Commission instructed Facebook to individually notify the more than 700,000 Filipino users who were affected by the company’s latest data breach, Inquirer.net reports. The NPC also requested the company provide identity theft and phishing insurance to those impacted or establish a local helpdesk to assist users within six months and that the company implement a local program to increase awareness on identity theft and phishing for Filipino data subjects. While the NPC said Facebook wrote “there is no material risk of more extensive harm occurring,” the commission retorted, “This commission does not agree; the risk of serious harm to Filipino data subjects is more than palpable. The conditions for individual notification are present.”
