Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains said the federal government is still working on balancing contact tracing with protecting privacy during the COVID-19 pandemic, iPolitics reports. In response to concerns raised during a Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology teleconference hearing, Bains said he could not say which provision within the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act would cover a contact tracing app, as the federal government has not chosen one. He added PIPEDA and the Privacy Act would apply to whatever app is picked.
