A group of House Republicans believe the foray of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) “into the privacy regulation space” via ISP privacy enforcement is “troubling,” Multichannel reports. The group, which includes Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Greg Walden (R-OR), has penned a letter to FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler with concerns including that the FTC “has been the sole Internet privacy regulator; the FCC's ‘jurisdictional appetite’ was problematic and the FCC does not have the technical expertise to regulate privacy,” the report states. Meanwhile, the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) is among the advocacy organizations supporting the FCC’s ability to protect Lifeline subscribers’ privacy, and the American Cable Association is among those opposing the FCC’s Lifeline updates.
