Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai announced Tuesday that the agency will vote on whether to roll back Obama-era rules that require internet service providers to offer open access to their networks, TechCrunch reports. In a column for The Wall Street Journal, Pai defended his draft rule changes, called "Restoring Internet Freedom Order." In the column, he urges the FCC to repeal "President Obama's heavy-handed internet regulations," adding, "The Federal Trade Commission would police ISPs, protect consumers and promote competition, just as it did before 2015." In a statement, FTC Acting Chairman Maureen Ohlhausen said she is "pleased to see progress on this important matter" and the FTC "stands ready to protect broadband subscribers from anticompetitive, unfair, or deceptive acts and practices just as we protect consumers in the rest of the internet ecosystem."
