The U.S. Federal Communications Commission plans to fine cellphone carriers hundreds of millions of dollars for not appropriately protecting customers’ real-time location data, The Wall Street Journal reports. The FCC informed AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile of pending notices of apparent liability, according to sources close to the situation. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai told members of Congress an investigation concluded “one or more” carriers were in violation of federal law. The fines could total more than $200 million.
