After voting to approve the rules on Oct. 27, the Federal Communications Commission has released the text of its broadband consumer privacy rules, the agency announced. The rules will "give broadband consumers increased choice, transparency and security over their personal data so consumers are empowered to decide how data are used and shared by broadband providers," the announcement states. Meanwhile, in an op-ed for Common Dreams, Jeff Chester agrees with a Business Insider observation that the publication of the rules is a “huge victory for privacy advocates.” While they may not be perfect yet, they "[set] the stage to tackle those remaining powerful digital media companies left basically untouched by the decision — especially Google and Facebook."
