Pai wrote a letter to federal lawmakers announcing the FCC's intentions, noting the potential fine or fines are awaiting commission approval. U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J., said the penalty is "a step in the right direction," while Democratic FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel said, "It’s a shame that it took so long for the FCC to reach a conclusion that was so obvious." Meanwhile, the University of Missouri-Columbia has defended a new student attendance app, saying it doesn't violate student privacy.
