The Utah Senate Government Operations and Political Subdivisions Committee approved a bill that would regulate government use of facial recognition technology, The Salt Lake Tribune reports. The technology is currently used to scan photos in the Driver License Division’s database. The bill would help ensure “people have fair notice and notification that they are subject to facial recognition searches when getting a driver’s license,” said sponsor State Sen. Daniel Thatcher, R-Utah. Meanwhile, a proposed ban on the use of facial recognition technology is moving forward in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
