The Canadian Press reports the whistleblower behind the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica revelations was let go from a job within the office of former Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff for pushing questionable data collection practices. An anonymous former senior Liberal party insider said Christopher Wylie developed strategies for political campaigns to use social media data, with the Liberal party feeling the procedures were too invasive, and eventually led to the party deciding not to renew Wylie’s contract in 2009. "Let's say he had boundary issues on data even back then," the insider said. "He effectively pitched an earlier version of exactly this to us back in 2009 and we said, 'No.'"
