As part of an effort to develop new features, Facebook has been asking banks to share their customers’ financial information, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. The social media company has asked JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup and U.S. Bancorp for card transactions and checking account balances in order to allow Facebook users to check their accounts, buy and sell goods, and be alerted of fraud. Data privacy concerns have impacted the talks to share information, as one major U.S. bank declined participation in the program. "We don't use purchase data from banks or credit card companies for ads," said Facebook Spokeswoman Elisabeth Diana. "We also don't have special relationships, partnerships, or contracts with banks or credit-card companies to use their customers' purchase data for ads."
