As Facebook moves to merge WhatsApp with its social media platform and Instagram, the company announced it has hired Nate Cardozo to join as WhatsApp's new privacy policy manager, CNBC reports. Previously, Cardozo served as top legal counsel at the Electronic Frontier Foundation and is a known critic of the tech company. Also announced, Robyn Greene, formerly of the Open Technology Institute, will be joining Facebook as privacy policy manager. Meanwhile, TechCrunch reports Facebook has been paying users to install a “Facebook Research” VPN to allow it to gather user data habits, and an op-ed for The New York Times challenges Mark Zuckerberg’s recent claim that users want tailored ads, highlighting research that found the opposite.
